What Makes Cigar Mas Fino Different?

Time in a humidor is important, it’s not just about the age of the cigar, time in the humidor allows all the different tobaccos in the cigar to get to their happy place, to get to the spot where they want to be smoked. If you order cigars online and they come to your house, they’ve been stored in different warehouses, they’ve been in different shipping containers all over the world, they’ve been in the back of a mail truck, and then they make it into your humidor. That cigar now needs time at a perfect temp and humidity to get to the place where it wants to be smoked.

We have the same issues here, at Cigar Mas Fino. Our Cigars also need to be shipped, however, they come directly from Nicaragua or the Dominican Republic to our door. When the cigars arrive here, we try to set them aside so they have time to find their happy place before our customers buy them.

The time cigars spend in our humidor, at the perfect temperature and humidity, is what makes them superior to any online purchases. When you buy online, your cigar has been around the world more than you have, and it needs time at that perfect balance to find its happy place. Check out what makes Cigar Mas Fino different on our social media accounts.

Finding Your Cigar’s Perfect Balance

There are many reasons that you need to keep a cigar at the perfect temperature and humidity.

Tobacco is a fuel. Think about it in terms of a campfire. There, moisture is bad, it creates more steam and doesn’t burn as warm. But, the drier the wood, the fewer oils and aromas it has.

In a cigar, we’re looking for the perfect balance between the ability to burn and stay lit, without being so dry that there’s no oils or flavor left in the tobacco itself.

When cigars are dry, they tend to crack, contract, and become brittle, ruining the cigar smoking experience.

When a cigar is too wet, it becomes mushy, hard to draw, and hard to keep lit. You shouldn’t be frustrated by any of these problems when smoking a cigar. Rather, you should be relaxed and focusing on what matters most: enjoying the cigar!

How to Store Cigars in Central California

Cigar making is an art. There aren’t a lot of facts involved, mostly opinions. At CMF we feel between 68-72% humidity and 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit is the best possible balance for our geographic location (Central California).

You might hear that Cuban cigars prefer a lesser humidity level, because it matches the country’s humidity level. This, Chris Mortensen says, is simply not true. There’s no correlation between the country’s humidity, which fluctuates seasonally, and how the cigar itself is stored.

When the cigars are in their curing barns, they’re under tight temperature and humidity control. The temperature and humidity should always be between four degrees of themselves, but these are different between each barn.

Can you Restore a Dry Cigar

If you’ve ever lost an expensive cigar to dehydration you know it hurts. You might be asking yourself – can I rehydrate this? The short answer is yes, but the process is long. Restoring a cigar takes time, sometimes weeks or even months. Even still, the oils in your cigar might have evaporated and your smoke will be less enjoyable. That’s why we recommend keeping your cigars in the optimal environment so they can be enjoyed fully.

But, if rehydration is absolutely necessary, we can help! At Cigar Mas Fino we rehydrate cigars in our humidor. Sometimes it will take a few weeks, other times it will take a few months. Come by the lounge to learn more.

Taking Care of Your Cigars

Chris Mortensen of Cigar Mas Fino walks you through how humidors can improve the quality of your cigar. From humidity to temperature to water quality, there are several factors that contribute to the quality of a cigar. The goal is to find a balance between how much you smoke, and how much your humidor costs to buy and maintain. You’ll never achieve the quality of a tobacconist’s humidor at home, but you can get close.

How to Choose Your First Cigar

What should you consider when selecting your first cigar? Cigar Mas Fino says you should buck the established rules and instead focus on finding the right tobacconist.
